The pinnacle of the four years that manager Noel OMahoney was in charge came in the 1990-91 season. Fired by the goals of John Caulfield, Cork retained the Munster Cup and put together a 24 match unbeaten run that helped them to the runners-up spot in the League. The reward for their fine season was UEFA Cup football and a dream draw against the mighty Bayern Munich. This was just Corks second-ever European tie but they put up a brave showing, holding them 1-1 at home before going down to two late goals in Bavaria in the return. It was fitting that the scorer of the first leg goal was the long-serving Dave Barry, a midfielder who had played in Cork Citys first ever competitive fixture seven years earlier.
