Copa El Salvador World Cup 1982 Short Sleeve T-Shirt

Along with bitter rivals Honduras, El Salvador successfully qualified for their second and most recent World Cup tournament in 1982. The man who led them there was coach Mauricio Rodríguez who had been a player at their first tournament back in 1970.
Preparation for the competition was marred by poor organisation from the El Salvadoran Federation, but once the action got underway the forward Luis Ramírez Zapata had the honour of scoring the nation´s first ever World Cup goal in their opening game. Celebrations were understandably muted with opponents Hungary already leading 5-0 at the time however.
The goal didn´t lift El Salvador´s spirits to any great extent either and the rout eventually ended 10-1 to the Europeans. Results at least improved in their other group games with narrow defeats to strong Belgian and Argentinian sides. The El Salvadorean star man was Jorge Magico Gonzalez who would earn a club contract in Spain after the tournament.
