Electrode placement:

- The size of the electrodes -big or small- and their placement on the muscle group that you want to stimulate, are essential elements for the comfort and efficiency of the work you do.
- Therefore, we recommend that you always take special care and follow the recommended placements. To visualize the different possibilities of electrode placement, click here.
- In a Mi-sensor stimulation, all the recommended positions will offer you an optimal positioning, therefore, we recommend that you follow these instructions rigorously. If you do not want to use the Mi technology, simply replace the sensor cable with another standard cable.

Stimulation position:

- The stimulation position depends on the muscle group to be stimulated. The different proposed positions are clearly indicated with pictograms placed next to the electrode placement drawings.
- For programs that produce highly visible muscle contractions, it is recommended to work isometric, which means that the ends of the limb should be fixed in such a way that there is no movement. For example, during the stimulation of the quadriceps, the person will sit with the ankles fixed, thus preventing the extension of the knees.
- Working in this way allows stimulation in complete safety. On the other hand, this makes it possible to limit the shortening of the muscle during contraction and therefore avoid the risks of cramps that could result from it. When working the cufflinks, foot extension will occur, so it is advisable to place a load on the shoulders or hold in some way so that this extension does not occur and the contraction is static.
- Except for specific indications regarding a particular program, you will not work dynamically without resistance.
- For programs in the Vascular, Anti-Pain Massage, and Active Recovery programs, which do not produce powerful muscle contractions, position yourself as comfortably as possible.

Adjust intensity / energy:

- When we stimulate a muscle, the number of fibers that work depends on the stimulation energy.
- Therefore, high stimulation energies must be used in order to recruit as many muscle fibers as possible. Below a high stimulation energy, the result obtained will be minimal. Indeed, the number of fibers recruited in the stimulated muscle is too low to allow a significant improvement in the performance of said muscle.
- The improvement of a stimulated muscle will be greater the higher the amount of fibers that work. If only a very small amount of fibers are stimulated, only those fibers will progress, while if we stimulate a much higher amount, many more fibers will progress and we will obtain a better result.
- Therefore, you must work with maximum stimulation energies, that is, always at the maximum bearable intensity.
- Of course, it is not about reaching the maximum stimulation energy from the first day of use. Anyone who has never previously practiced Compex stimulation will perform some sessions of the Muscle Initiation program, with an energy capable of producing powerful muscle contractions, to get used to electrostimulation. Subsequently, you can start your first stimulation cycle with your specific program and level. After warming up, which should produce clear muscle jerks, the stimulation energy must be gradually increased, from contraction to contraction, during the first three or four minutes of the work sequence. It is also necessary to advance in the energies used from session to session, especially during the first three sessions of a cycle.

Planning of sessions:

- Planning of the stimulation sessions during the week arises from the moment in which 2 weekly workouts are carried out.
- If up to 6 sessions are planned per week, it is recommended to separate these sessions as much as possible. For example, the person who performs 3 weekly sessions will do them at the rate of 1 session every 2 days (work alternate days). Whoever does 6 sessions will do 6 days of stimulation and 1 day off.
- From 7 sessions per week or more, it is advisable to group several sessions on the same day, to gain one or two days of complete rest without stimulation. Whoever performs 7 sessions per week will do 5 stimulation days, at the rate of 1 session a day, and one day perform 2 sessions in a row (spaced at least half an hour off); in this way, you will have 1 day off. Whoever performs 10 sessions per week will preferably do 5 days with two sessions a day (spaced at least half an hour off); thus, they will have 2 days off.
- Important: Do not use 2 work programs on the same muscle group.

Workout / workout alternation:

- Stimulation sessions can be done before, after or during voluntary training.
- When voluntary training and stimulation are carried out during the same session, it is generally recommended to carry out voluntary training first and then electrostimulation, thus, voluntary training will not be done on an already fatigued muscle. This is especially important for strength and explosive strength training.
- From seven sessions per week or more, it is advisable to group several sessions on the same day, to gain one or two days of complete rest without stimulation. Whoever performs seven sessions per week will do five days of stimulation, at the rate of one session per day, and one day with two sessions in a row (spaced at least half an hour off); this way, you will have a day off. Whoever performs ten sessions per week will preferably do five days with two sessions a day (spaced at least half an hour off); thus, they will have two days off.

Level progression:

- In general, it is not advisable to rapidly increase levels to reach the highest level as soon as possible.
- The different levels correspond to a progression in training, and it is necessary to leave the muscles the time necessary to adapt, and thus, overcompensation occurs.
- The most frequent mistake is to go from level to level as we use higher stimulation energies. The number of fibers undergoing stimulation depends on the intensity / energy of stimulation; on the other hand, the nature and amount of work carried out by these fibers depend on the program and the level. The objective is, first, to progress in the stimulation intensities / energies, and then in the levels. And is that the more fibers are stimulated, the more fibers will progress. But the speed of progress of these fibers, as well as their ability to operate at a higher regimen, depend on the program and level used, the number of weekly sessions, the duration of these sessions and the intrinsic characteristics of the user.
- The simplest and most common way is to raise the level in the chosen program when a new stimulation cycle is started.
- You can also raise a level during the same cycle, in which case it is advisable not to do so before working at least three weeks with the same level.
- It does not change level during sporadic use or as maintenance. Nor does it change levels in a short intense or aggressive cycle of three to four weeks. By contrast, in classic use, during a six-week cycle, you can go to the next level after three weeks. Also in an intensive or aggressive cycle of six to eight weeks, you can go up a level after three or four weeks

Using heating:

- All programs that produce significant contractions (tetanic contractions) to the stimulated muscles automatically start with a warm-up sequence, which is reflected on the screen by smoke on top of a radiator.
- When no voluntary physical activity has been performed in the minutes prior to the stimulation session, it is recommended to warm up. In case the stimulation session is included in a voluntary training and if a voluntary activity immediately precedes the stimulation, it is not necessary to carry out the warm-up sequence. Eliminate smoke from the radiator: the session will start in the specific program chosen, without prior warm-up.
- After the stimulation work sequence, a relaxation sequence will automatically start, which will improve the recovery of a muscle after working with the Compex and alleviate, in a way, the muscular stiffness. If you do not want to go immediately to voluntary training phases, it is advisable to carry out the last sequence. It is also recommended to stretch the muscles that you have just worked with the Compex, just as we would do at the end of a voluntary training session.
